VOLUNTEER FAQ'SFind the answers to your questions regarding Volunteers.
Do I need prior building experience or tools?
No, we encourage everyone from professionals to novices to come build with us. There are a variety of jobs perfect for every level of skill. Our staff provides on-site training and all-day guidance, as well as all the tools and materials needed to complete the tasks at hand.
Where is the current build site?
What will I be doing on the build site?
Build site activities can include anything it takes to build a home from start to finish. Some typical volunteer activities include concrete work, framing, siding, painting, roofing, laying flooring, hanging doors or windows, trim work, finishing, landscaping, and cleaning. All of it is critical to a finished home and a healthier, more stable family. The specific activity you will work on is difficult to predict more than a few days in advance. Your flexibility and enthusiasm for whatever activity you’ll be working on day-of are most appreciated.
How old do I have to be to volunteer on the build site?
You must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer on our build site. No persons under the age of 18 will be permitted to volunteer on the build site without prior approval from the Construction Supervisor and the Community Engagement Department.
When can I volunteer?
We provide opportunities year-round. We have construction volunteer opportunities traditionally on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. If these dates do not work for you, we also have Kalispell ReStore volunteer opportunities Wednesdays through Saturdays. Please contact our community engagement department to schedule your volunteer experience today.
How do I register to volunteer on the build site?
What if I registered but can no longer make it to my volunteer day on the build site?
Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance by calling 406-257-8800 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Having accurate volunteer numbers is critical for the progress of our homes and planning of our construction leadership. If you do not show up for your volunteer day or do not notify us of your cancellation, you might forfeit your right to volunteer with us in the future.
What will I be doing at the ReStore?
Tasks vary day to day, but some common activities include assisting customers, processing and sorting donations, repairing, and refurbishing donations, placing merchandise out on the floor, and hitting the road with Kalispell ReStore staff to pick up donated goods.
Do I need to attend a new volunteer orientation before I volunteer at the ReStore?
No, Kalispell ReStore volunteer groups will be given an orientation at the start of their volunteer shift.
How old do I need to be to volunteer at the Restore?
You must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer at the Kalispell ReStore. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a chaperone with a ratio of at least 1 chaperone for every 4 youths. All chaperones must be at least 18 years of age.
How do I register to volunteer at the Restore?

Do I need to fundraise or donate to volunteer at the ReStore?

Who can volunteer?
We welcome everyone! You can come as an individual who wants to lend a hand and meet others or with a group who wants to spend some time together. We have worked alongside corporations, schools, faith groups, families, groups of friends and everyone in between. Whether you arrive as an individual or a team, you will leave as part of the Habitat Flathead community.
Can I fulfill community service with Habitat Flathead?
We’d be happy to work with you to help you complete community service hours. Upon registering for your first volunteer day, you will be prompted to answer several questions pertaining to your community service. We will then review your answers and you will be notified whether you have been approved.
Does Habitat Flathead provide transportation to volunteer events?
No, but we’ll meet you there. Carpooling with other volunteers is always encouraged, as well as public transportation.
Can I bring friends with me to volunteer, even though I forgot to request them to be added to the schedule?
No. To ensure safety and productivity, only volunteers who register in advance can attend volunteer days. Our construction team and Kalispell ReStore staff reserve the right to turn away volunteers who are not registered prior to the volunteer day.
Do I need to fundraise or donate to volunteer on the build site or ReStore?
No fundraising is not a requirement. The donation of your time is invaluable to us! But, if you’d like, consider making a financial donation or lead a fundraising effort in support of our mission.
