Habitat RV Care-A-Vanners

The Habitat International RV Care-A-Vanner program was founded in 1989 to meet the need for experienced builders by small affiliates. Care-A-Vanners travel at their own expense to affiliates around the country and work for extended periods of time bringing and sharing their extensive experience, construction and leadership skills, and strong commitment to the Habitat mission. They are housed in their own RVs when they build at Habitat construction sites. Hosting Care-A-Vanners always has a huge impact on our build site and Habitat community by bringing a burst of fresh energy and enthusiasm to our work.

Each year, Habitat Flathead’s Care-A-Vanner volunteers work around 900 hours over four weeks of service in spring and fall. Our regular volunteers and homeowners are deeply inspired by these unique, out-of-town, traveling volunteers. Many homeowners have never met people willing to give so much of their time and energy to make a stranger’s life better. This experience is life-enhancing for all involved.

A Home for the Care-A-Vanners

We are installing six RVs hook ups with amenities and a laundry facility on our ReStore property to provide an affordable, comfortable place for Habitat RV Care-A-Vanners and other volunteers to stay while building with Habitat Flathead. Join us this summer!

My husband and I keep returning to the beautiful Flathead Valley and the local Habitat affiliate for so many reasons! Obviously the natural setting can start any day off in a beautiful way, but it is the people that constantly draw us back – the Habitat staff, the construction supervisors, the local volunteers, and the homeowners – all make manual construction labor FUN and so rewarding!

As CAVs, we are appreciated many times over and made to feel welcome and loved. The new RV mini campground on affiliate grounds will make camping more affordable during the high-rent summer months, both to offer more builds and attract more drop-in short-term workers. More skilled CAV labor means more families can move into decent, affordable housing! And that’s a win!
